Kitchen Backsplash Ideas: Reinvent Your Space with Style!
A well-chosen kitchen backsplash can transform the appearance of your kitchen. Here are some inspiring ideas for a standout backsplash, with tips from Marco Moretti, a consultant at Déco Surfaces.
Choosing the format
The advantage of ceramic backsplashes is their variety of formats.
In smaller formats, you have mosaics and small square tiles making a strong comeback, offering a wide variety of textures and patterns for a unique look.
In medium formats, you have versatile rectangular subway tiles.
Then there are large formats, perfect for a modern style. "The modern style is characterized by large tiles that visually enlarge the space," explains Marco Moretti.
Textures and patterns
Textured or patterned ceramics create the entire ambiance of a room on their own. Ceramics that mimic wallpaper or fabric, like Yuzu and Qualiano mat models, add an extra dimension to your decor.
For a bolder look, consider the Cosenza model in black. Its 3D effect and texture capture light beautifully.

Quilt style
For a truly attention-grabbing backsplash, opt for quilt (patchwork) style tiles.
Available in black and white or shades of greige and cream, these tiles create an artistic and warm effect. "But be careful to use them sparingly. Covering too large an area with this type of ceramic would be a mistake and spoil its effect," advises Marco.
Get inspired by models like Geom Decor and Faenza Japan Mix.
You can use them, for example, to create a decorative niche above your stove or around your sink.
Glossy colours
Glossy colours are making a big comeback in design. Adding shiny, colourful tiles can give your kitchen a touch of sparkle.
"Glossy tiles are often used in bathrooms, but don't be afraid to use them elsewhere, like on a kitchen backsplash," notes Marco Moretti.
Think of bold colours like cobalt blue, emerald green, or ruby red for a striking visual.

Natural stone imitations
Ceramics that mimic natural stones, like marble or travertine, are more realistic than ever, thanks to technological advances.
These tiles create a luxurious look without the high cost and maintenance of real stone. "Manufacturers are succeeding in producing unique tiles that give the illusion of real stone," explains Marco.
Synthetic marble or imitation travertine backsplashes are great for an elegant, timeless look. Glazed porcelain models like Terracina and Gradara Natural demonstrate the striking resemblance between ceramics and natural stones.
Burnt effect
For a rustic and rich look, opt for roasted ceramic tiles that give a burnt appearance. These tiles are perfect for both modern and retro decor.
"Roasted ceramics adapt to many decoration styles," concludes Marco.
Combine them with natural materials like raw wood or metal for a striking contrast.
Herringbone pattern
The herringbone pattern is a classic technique making a comeback for kitchen backsplashes. This style creates a V-shaped pattern that adds dynamism to your decor.
Retro-style subway tiles work great for this technique, adding an elegant, modern touch. You can also find mosaics already in a herringbone pattern, such as the Ormera or this model.
The charm of terracotta
Terracotta, with its warm and earthy hue, is ideal for bringing a cosy and welcoming atmosphere to your kitchen. Use it as a backsplash colour to create an interesting contrast with modern elements and neutral colours.
Mixing ceramic designs
Don't be afraid to mix ceramic designs for a unique, personalized look. Combine subway tiles with textured ceramics or terrazzo to create a backsplash that tells your story.
