Fall or Spring cleaning : Our tips to make the house sparkle
It is not only in spring that our house deserves to be pampered! During the fall season, a deep cleaning is necessary for your carpets, blinds, ceramics, vinyl and wood floors.
We all know how to dust, wash walls and shine mirrors. But some household tasks are more challenging than others. Here are some professional tips to make the house sparkle and get through the more complex areas.
HOW TO RESTORE THE SHINE OF YOUR BLINDS
Oily Spots
Fabric blinds are in trend, especially the alternating laths models that allow different privacy according to our needs. But sometimes forgotten food left behind or greasy fingerprints can turn into a tough stain. To get rid of them, mix a little dishwashing liquid with lots of hot water. Then using a cloth or an ear pick, gently rub the area. To avoid creating dark circles, it's best to dry the areas that have been wet with a hair dryer.
Getting back to the original white
Canvases made of white fabrics can become grayish over time, although this is not very visible. If you want an impeccable white, clean the blind with warm water and mild soap. And to prevent yellowing of the white, wash the blinds every season. In some cases, a paste of baking soda and water can remove the yellowing (try a small section first). At all times, it is important to avoid abrasive materials, such as all-purpose cleaners.
Removing Dust
To properly clean wood or plastic blinds, a feather duster or a damp towel can do a good job. But if you want to simplify your life, put a cotton stocking in your hand and wipe over the laths: the dust will stick to the fabric and your fingers will reach hard-to-reach places. It's very effective!
MAINTENANCE OF YOUR HARDWOOD FLOORING
Bring out the natural texture of raw or varnished wood
Natural wood floorings can tarnish. There is nothing better than stain wax to restore them to their original glory and bring out their grain. Usually composed of beeswax or Candellilla wax, this product even protects the wood from certain aggressions.
Washing a hardwood floor efficiently
Matte or glossy, a hardwood floor is easy to clean. Just use the right products for wood floors: read the label! If you find that your floors aren't as shiny as they were originally, they will need to be refinished (but that takes a lot of work!).
MAINTENANCE OF YOUR VINYLE FLOORING
If you have a vinyl flooring in your home, you know that it is very easy to maintain. To make it shine, the soap chosen must have a neutral pH that will prevent greasy deposits (the pH is usually indicated on the packaging). This way, you will make sure that you don't leave any traces. Opt for Deco Surfaces cleaning and maintenance products, they will do wonders for your floor!
YOUR CERAMICS WILL NEVER HAVE BEEN SO BEAUTIFUL
Joints just like new
Ceramic usually washes like a charm. But it's a different story when it comes to its grout! In a few months, a white grout can turn grey or even black. As a general rule, a toothbrush and a specially designed cleaner are sufficient to make the grout shine. But sometimes, other solutions are necessary! For shower joints, if necessary, choose an acid cleaner that will remove calcium deposits, rust and soap residue. For a kitchen backsplash, turn to an alkaline cleaner (avoid contact with the sealant). For heavily soiled joints, make a paste with hot water and baking soda. Scrub with a toothbrush and the magic happens!
Stains on porous ceramics
Some porous porcelain absorbs dirt and grease. Then, once dried, stains are difficult to remove. Several products can help remove them, such as linseed oil or black soap (available in eco-friendly stores).
RESTORE YOUTH TO YOUR RUGS
Remove all debris and dust
Rugs are champions at storing dirt. When they have long hairs, they can even stick together. A small size rug can usually be put in the washing machine without any problem. To prevent it from deforming, it is advisable to dry it in the open air. But what to do with large rugs? Get a carpet shampoo at the store. After vacuuming, use a hard bristle brush in a circular motion to help the product penetrate.
Getting rid of stains and odours
A good rug shampoo will eliminate odours. But for best results, rent a carpet steamer. Stubborn stains can be removed with baking soda and white vinegar and left for a few hours before scrubbing with a brush.
