7 decorating trends for the home in 2023

Decorating trends are not only related to the sense of aesthetics. They usually reflect the way we want to live our lives! The way you furnish your home says a lot about you and your daily habits.

In addition, trends are constantly changing. For example, did you know that open areas are on the decline since the major confinement of covid-19? Indeed, people wanted to create different rooms to allow privacy for each member of the family. So what does 2023 hold in store for us in terms of trends?

1. A focus on wellbeing

Mental health is the talk of the town and our homes are no exception. An environment designed to facilitate a healthy lifestyle can indeed make a difference. In fact, wellbeing design can set the tone for decorating and promote healthier spaces. This trend can take on different aspects depending on your personal wellness needs.

It can be to create a room with a zen and uncluttered decor. Or creating a resting area in your office that includes a soft rug, cozy cushions and opaque curtains that allow you to clear your mind during your coffee break.

2. The return of art deco

A favorite from the 1930's is back with a vengeance! The idea of revisiting some of the trends of the last few decades is not new. After an overdose of minimalist interiors, it's art deco that's making a comeback: brighter colors, symmetry and geometric shapes are in the spotlight. You could, for example, dare a more colorful kitchen backsplash. Or opt for a herringbone pattern for your hardwood floor.

Rounded furniture, found on sofas, tables or even the kitchen island is also a nod to this aesthetic. To add these curves to your interior, consider rugs in circular shapes as well.

3. Multipurpose houses

With teleworking, among other things, but also as dictated by the leisure society, our homes have become multifunctional havens. So, by 2023, the focus will be on custom interiors that cater to daily activities, as well as entertainment and exercise. Home theaters, luxury game rooms, gyms and saunas are sure to increase in number!

If you want to divide a large open-plan room into several sections, consider incorporating elements that will subtly divide the space. For example, a large rug that delimits the living room area, a tall bookcase as a half wall, etc. You could also use two opposing floor coverings to create this effect.

4. Washrooms and sophisticated entrances

No square inch will be left out of our homes for 2023: from the entrance to the living areas to the utility spaces! Interior design trends will follow your sense of aesthetics to make their mark everywhere. It will not be uncommon to see, for example, a chandelier in the secondary entrance or luxurious porcelain (wall and floor) in the laundry room.

5. The pantry

The functional role of the pantry will also intentionally serve to reduce the number of upper cabinets needed in the kitchen. This will kill two birds with one stone, as open shelving remains a favorite kitchen feature in 2023.

And this large pantry must look great! Its storage is illustrated by wicker baskets, transparent boxes and touches of black. You could also cover one or more surfaces with a wall covering, such as a ceramic tile imitation wood.

6. Black…is the new black!

In 2023, black is more in vogue than ever! In fact, this color is never far away, whether it's in our clothing, on our cars or in our homes. Easily customized to our desires, black is an element that instantly adds character to a room. It's up to us to choose how intensely to incorporate it.

Some designers dare to use very dark wood, almost black, or even charcoal colored porcelain floors. The contrasts are pleasing to the eye and the rooms come out chic!

7. Oversized fixtures

Experimenting with proportions brings a very interesting look. Not only does boldly sized lighting draw attention, it looks exquisite! Think of an eclectically shaped pendant light above the dining table or a chandelier that glows brightly in the stairwell.

Combine these trends with your own style to give your home a unique makeover. The watchword for 2023: have fun!
